Review of Philips MC-V320 Micro System

Good Points
Simple and easy to connect.
Low output (20W+20W RMS), but it gives a good responsive sound with rich BASS, ROCK+BASS ON.
Good sound quality from MP3 CD/Video CD and Tuner.
The BASS is not that rich on an Audio CD (but, who listens to them these days).

Bad Points
The cassette player is ordinary, with ordinary controls; Play, FFW/REW, although it does not have a skip function.
It does not have a good sound through Audio Cassette.
Philips did not come with a DVD Player with similar Sound Quality Output. The similar model does not has a rich BASS sound with the DVD compared to the MC-V320.

General Comments
If you are planning on getting a good MP3 / VCD player, and if you have a low budget, I would recommend the Philips MC-V320 micro system.

Review of Denon D-M35DAB Micro System

Good Points
Very good sound quality
Easy to use
Solid construction

Bad Points
None really

General Comments
I've always been a fan of big hi-fi, but we really needed to downsize, and I was at first quite sceptical about choosing a micro system. The Denon D-M35DAB is probably a little bigger than most micro's on the market, and it is probably mid-way in size between and micro and a mini system. With this in mind please check your space, especially if you are hoping to place it on a shelf, as it's 328mm deep. The speakers are also quite deep (249mm), and they may not fit on all shelves.

The all-important thing for me is the sound quality, and this micro doesn't disappoint. It's only 22 watts per channel, but it seems a lot more powerful than that. I decided to buy the package with the Denon M73 speakers, although you can buy it without speakers and buy your own.

If space is tight and you can't fit a whole bunch of separates and big speakers into your room, it's a perfect choice. The sound is spot on, and if I'm honest. it is as good as my old system, which included some great Mission floor standing speakers - praise indeed for Denon speaker technology.

I paid £329.99, and I think it's great value for money. It is not the cheapest micro in the shops, but you get what you pay for when it comes to quality hi-fi.

Pure's new DAB products

AVreview.co.uk, UK - 8 Nov 2006
Pure's stand at last week's What Hifi/Stuff Show was literally bursting with shiny new gadgets. We took some snaps for ourselves, (see our AVR and GadgetCentre reports) but since then Pure has kindly sent us some more info on its three latest DAB powered table-toppers.

First is the quite beautiful Pure Legato II micro system. The Legato II incorporates a DAB/FM tuner, CD player (compatible with CD-R and CD-RW playback) plus 30W amp and features all of Pure's latest innovations; EPG, SD-card slot for recording, Intellitext and ReVu. It's out this month for around £350 - we're clearing a suitable space on the kitchen table as we speak...

The Pure Elan DX40 builds on the existing Elan and chucking in textSCAN (to pause and scroll DAB text), Intellitext (for news updates etc), RDS, USB upgradeability, and support for a rechargeable battery pack. Other features include 16 presets (DAB or FM), clock and sleep timers plus a tone or DAB/FM radio alarm. The Pure Elan DX40 is out now for £70.

Evesham launches SoundWords Radio CD

19 Oct 2006 at 6:17am
Evesham has launched a new hi-fi system without the words “iPod” and “dock” attached to the name.

The SoundWords Radio CD from Creative plays regular CDs as well as MP3 CDs, and incorporates an AM/FM radio tuner with 24 station presets and two alarms.

Creative's proprietary subwoofer technology means that it is stored in its own vented enclosure in the small hi-fi, and provides a deep bass foundation for room-filling sound.
